Ted Williams League Fall Season (ages 9-12)
Ted Williams League co-founder and commissioner, Steve Ferroli, talks briefly about other youth baseball leagues.
Real Baseball, without the Politics
or Overpriced fees
Are you tired of your child’s youth baseball experience? Does it lack coaching experience? Does it seem unfair in places? Is it too expensive?
You may have been told or believe that this is the typical youth baseball experience in 2025… The Ted Williams League strongly disagrees. “The problem is not with the local organizations or their people, it is with the traditional youth baseball format! It was set up incorrectly right from the start. After studying it all these years, I can make a very strong case, that we really have never played youth baseball at all.” – Steve Ferroli
Welcome to the Ted Williams League (TWL), located in Hanson, MA.
The TWL has been operating since 1997 with a proven track record of:
Fairness / non political
World-renowned skill development
Mandatory playing time
ZERO cases of ‘throwers elbow’
This fall, we are starting teams in several surrounding towns to play for our 2025 fall championship. These towns include; Hanson, Whitman, Rockland, Hanover, East Bridgewater, Pembroke, Carver and Halifax. (Players from all towns are welcome to register as they will be drafted to one of the town teams above.) The season will start on September 21st and play through Halloween.
We play a 10 game schedule (+playoffs). Games will be played at 6pm on weekdays TBA and 11 or 2 pm on Saturdays. Players will receive a team shirt and hat and the league will supply all the wooden bats
The cost of the season is $250 per player. (Family discounts)
Registration and Registration Questions
To sign-up your player(s), please fill out the registration form at the bottom of the page. Each player must be registered and have paid at least their draft fee to be evaluated and then claimed by or drafted to a team’s roster.
All teams and individual players must be evaluated after registration and before the open draft for TWL team balance.
Can a new coach or interested parent (not currently in our program) bring in a new group of players to play together and then be assigned to coach that team? Yes. We refer to this as a “new team nucleus”. A “new team nucleus” must have at least 6 players but no more than 9. The remaining players to this roster (of about 14) must be drafted from the division’s open player draft. These players in the open draft may be from the same town or other towns. Also note head coaches that pass the TWL certification test receive a $500 stipend at the completion of each TWL season.
Can a parent (Mom or Dad) organize a new nucleus of players from their town or neighborhood but not coach the team? Yes, in this case a TWL certified coach will be assigned to this team and draft the remaining players required.
Can a town have more than one team? Yes, as long as the division has room for the second team.
If you are excited about entering and/or coaching a new team nucleus, please fill out the registration form and type “YES” in the “coaching box”. Please email us the names of your 6-9 players and we will remove them from the draft. Email your new team nucleus to; tedwilliamsleague@yahoo.com.
Can brothers and friends be drafted to the same team for ride purposes? Yes. We refer to this as a package deal and they are drafted together in the player draft.
Can players be drafted to their town’s team nucleus even if they are not listed in the new team nucleus by the coach? Yes. While we can’t guarantee this, most coaches lean toward their town’s players in the draft.
Can a player request to be drafted to a specific team? Yes and we will try to make it happen, but with our team balance policy we can’t guarantee it.
What Makes the TWL different?
The TWL prioritizes “fair, fun and learning” above all else.
What is “fair and fun?”
Balance between all division teams
No player sits for more than one inning in a row
Any player can pitch, catch or play 1st base if they pass a TWL skills test
All qualified pitchers enter a set rotation, ensuring every pitcher gets a fair chance
Our innovative field dimensions and ruleset result in a truer more enjoyable representation of baseball where all its traditional plays are possible and justified with in the player’s level of play.
Steve Ferroli, league founder and commissioner, pioneered an independent study in 1980 where he found that many traditional youth baseball dimensions and pieces of equipment were mathematically incorrect, placing youth players in a game that is out of scale and often unsafe.
Through years of testing and development, Steve created logical dimensions for every age group, so children could experience playing “real baseball”.
What is “real baseball”?
Proper field dimensions and equipment that allow for all the traditional plays of the game to be executed under reasonable challenge
Base leading and base stealing
A home run line that is obtainable for the average player
Dropped third strikes, balks, and pick-offs
Wooden bats, no wallet-busting metal bats
Steve, with the support of American hero and baseball legend, Ted Williams, combined the “fair, fun and learning” with “real baseball” principles to create the TWL.
